In-line Raman Spectroscopy

Follow chemical composition and reaction progress in real time and get reliable data that informs your decisions faster.

What in-line Raman Spectroscopy enables for manufacturers.

Raman Spectroscopy is a non-destructive chemical analysis technique that uses laser light to provide a detailed molecular fingerprint of a substance. It works exceptionally well with organic molecules, polymers, plastics, carbon nanomaterials, inorganic solids, minerals, and fluids. It lets manufacturers:

  • Monitor chemical reactions as they happen

Raman spectroscopy gives you a clear picture of the reaction progress, while it monitors changes in characteristic molecular bonds as reactants are consumed and products are formed.

  • Measure individual compounds and mixtures in real-time

Raman can detect selected individual compounds even in complex mixtures, helping you maintain the right ingredient concentrations and ratios.

  • Pinpoint reaction endpoints

It helps identify the right reaction endpoint, letting you avoid premature termination or unnecessary processing time by using measured chemical changes.

  • Analyse water-based mixtures effectively

Distinguish selected dissolved substances despite the presence of water. Raman is especially well suited for monitoring concentrations and chemical reactions in aqueous production processes.

Raman analyser in an industrial environment

Make decisions sooner

Reduce avoidable material loss, by detecting changes in your product and reacting to them faster.

Keep batches within target

Continuously monitor concentrations or reaction indicators instead of relying on occasional sample lab testing.

Put measurements to work

Make test results instantly available to operators, control systems, and production records.

Why do companies choose INEA?

We help you stay in control

We involve your team throughout the project, from specification, initial testing and implementation to training and handover. With clear documentation, practical knowledge transfer, and ongoing support, your team has what it needs to operate the solution with confidence.

Who is Raman spectroscopy for?

Raman spectroscopy is suitable for manufacturers whose production includes processes such as mixing, blending, formulation, polymerization, crystallization, fermentation, and curing. It also supports quality monitoring in extrusion, coating, continuous chemical processing, and wastewater treatment, wherever reliable chemical measurements can improve process decisions.

Hero

Gekko

Gekko Photonics’ Spectrally X1 INLINE brings Raman spectroscopy directly into industrial production. It combines an in-line multi-channel measurement system, fast proprietary spectra interpreting software with advanced algorithms, and options for challenging process conditions. We believe this combination of features and benefits best addresses our customers’ production challenges.

Measurements directly in the process.

The Spectrally X1 INLINE monitors selected material characteristics directly in your production streams without manual sampling.

Information your team can use.

Advanced chemometric models translate each spectrum into process values such as concentration or reaction endpoint. Those values are then sent to the existing control layer and can directly drive dosing and alarms.

High accuracy and quick results.

Depending on the analyte and the medium, it takes from 5 to 300 seconds to go from measurement to result with single PPM accuracy.

Built for difficult media.

The immersion probe with the Retractex self-cleaning component. This allows the optics to stay clean in difficult media such as resins and dispersions.

Integration process

1

Define
the scope

We review your material, current testing method, measurement target, and the decisions the result must support.

2

Prove
feasibility

Together with your relevant specialists, we assess representative samples against agreed accuracy, range, and response-time requirements.

3

Engineer the installation

We design the physical measurement location and plan out the connections and interfaces.

4

Integrate and validate

We implement the agreed solutions then test measurement performance and system behaviour under the relevant production conditions.

5

Handover and support

We train the users and agree who maintains the instruments, analytical model, software, and integration over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

In-line Raman measures the chemical composition of liquids in the process: concentrations of components, reaction conversion and similar process values. Whether a specific analyte can be measured, and with what accuracy, is confirmed in a feasibility study on samples from your process.
The analyser communicates over . We integrate it with the existing PLC, DCS, MES and SCADA systems, so the results can be used in control loops, alarms and batch recipes.
The current configuration is intended for non-hazardous areas. An ATEX / IECEx Zone 0 configuration of X1 INLINE with X1 PROBE is planned for June 2027. Thanks to optical fibre up to 100 m, the analyzer cabinet itself can be placed away from the process.
The analyzer runs without consumables or reagents. Calibration runs automatically against a reference integrated in the probe, Retractex keeps the optical window clean, and the laser has a minimum lifetime of two years. First-line service is provided locally and the analyser is covered by a 12-month warranty.
