Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition – SCADA

SCADA system is an advanced framework, essential for industrial control and monitoring. It enables efficient operation, real-time monitoring, and comprehensive analysis of complex, geographically dispersed processes requiring precise control.

At its core, SCADA system consists of a central supervisory computer, remote terminal units (RTUs), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and a robust communication infrastructure. RTUs and PLCs, distributed throughout a facility or across multiple sites, interface directly with machinery, sensors, and control devices to collect real-time data on parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow rate, and voltage. The central system processes this data, providing operators with graphical interfaces for monitoring and control, while managing alarms and logging data for analysis.

SCADA system offers significant returns through improved efficiency, enhanced reliability, and precise control, making it versatile and essential for modern industrial operations across various sectors.

Real-time data acquisition
and visualization

SCADA’s real-time monitoring and control manages a range of input-output (I/O) points, from a few hundred to tens of thousands. The system interface connects directly to machinery, sensors, and control devices, collecting real-time data on parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow rate, and voltage. This data is transmitted to a central SCADA system, where it is processed, monitored, and analysed.

The human-machine interface (HMI) presents the data in a user-friendly format, enabling operators to visualize complex processes through charts, graphs, and virtual mimic panels. This setup allows operators to quickly detect and respond to anomalies, inefficiencies, or emergencies. The system can also generate alerts or alarms when specific thresholds are crossed, ensuring immediate attention to critical issues.

Remote monitoring and control
for large-scale operations

Beyond monitoring, SCADA offers robust control capabilities. Operators can observe and remotely control processes, adjusting settings, starting, or stopping operations, and managing entire workflows directly from the SCADA interface. Mobile and HTML5-compliant systems ensure that information is accessible anytime and anywhere, which is particularly beneficial for large-scale operations spread over vast geographical areas, such as utility networks or oil and gas pipelines.

SCADA also excels in data logging and historical data analysis. It stores extensive operational data, which can be used for trend analysis, performance optimization, and predictive maintenance. This historical data supports informed, data-driven decision-making, enhancing efficiency and reducing operational costs. Given their role in controlling critical infrastructure, SCADA incorporates robust security measures, such as encryption, authentication protocols, and network security tools, to protect sensitive industrial data from unauthorized access and cyber threats.

Future-proofed
customized solution

We specialize in improving and developing monitoring and control systems for both existing and new platforms. As the endorsed system integrators for AVEVA (Wonderware), we specialize in their solutions. However, our expertise extends to integrating a wide range of systems, including Siemens (WinCC), Rockwell (FactoryTalk), GE (iFix), PcVue and others, ensuring enhanced security and long-term sustainability.

Based on an initial assessment of the customer’s operational needs, goals, and existing infrastructure, we design SCADA systems that integrate seamlessly with current processes and equipment. We customize the user interface and functionality to enhance user experience and operational efficiency. Our designs prioritize scalability and flexibility, allowing for future modifications and expansions without significant overhauls.

Development, testing,
and simulation

Our SCADA system development process includes setting up data acquisition layers, control algorithms, and visualization dashboards. Before deployment, we simulate the entire system to test functionality and ensure it meets all predefined requirements. This simulation phase helps identify and address potential issues, reducing the likelihood of problems during live operations. This is particularly crucial for customers using valuable raw materials, as errors can lead to significant financial and environmental risks.

To ensure thorough testing, we conduct live Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at our location or on-site with the customer. We also offer a remote FAT simulation environment, allowing remote participation in testing. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, we maintained project continuity by establishing a “professional streaming studio” in our assembly hall and developed a “transparent deployment” protocol. This setup enabled customers to monitor the operation of the production lines and test the SCADA systems in real-time, ensuring our high standards of quality and reliability were upheld.

Training, support,
and optimization

We handle the physical installation of SCADA hardware and software, ensuring compliance with all safety and industry standards, followed by thorough commissioning to integrate the system with onsite operations. This includes comprehensive testing of all components within the customer’s operational environment. We provide extensive training for the operational and technical staff, covering daily operations, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance procedures, along with detailed documentation including system blueprints, user manuals, and maintenance guides.

Once the system is operational, we offer ongoing support and maintenance, including regular system checks, updates, and performance optimizations to ensure optimal functionality and adaptability to evolving needs. We maintain efficient communication channels, allowing customers to receive help from the same engineer who developed their solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

SCADA stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. It is a system used for monitoring and controlling industrial processes remotely. SCADA collects data from sensors and machines, sends this data to a central computer, and then uses software to analyse and display this data, allowing operators to control the processes based on the information.
Yes, SCADA systems are designed for high compatibility, allowing them to integrate seamlessly with existing hardware and software infrastructure. This integration process typically involves evaluating the current infrastructure to identify integration points, planning the integration timeline and resources, and gradually deploying the system to minimize disruptions.

Custom interfaces, drivers, or scripts are often developed to bridge any gaps between the SCADA system and unique hardware or software components. Finally, the system platform is configured using its tools to map existing data sources, ensuring enhanced monitoring and control without the need for a complete system overhaul.
As integrators, we can work with any SCADA system or provider. We are particularly specialized as endorsed system integrators for AVEVA (Wonderware) solutions. Additionally, our expertise extends to integrating a wide range of other systems, including Siemens (WinCC), Rockwell (FactoryTalk), GE (iFix), and more.
